Bing powered by ChatGPT - Everything you need to know

Bing is an experience that combines Microsoft's search engine with a customized version of the ChatGPT bot from OpenAI to provide more conversational human answers than a list of links on a page that can contain or does not contain correct information. In this article

Also, unlike traditional search, the new Bing (and similar chatbots) can answer complex questions, perform various tasks, and you can interact with it knowing it will understand the context. However, it is essential to note that no matter how you use a chatbot, you should never rely on answers blindly, as there will always be issues of accuracy and error.

This guide will walk you through the basics to get started using the Bing AI experience on Windows 11, 10, macOS, or Linux. You can now use chatbots on mobile devices through the Microsoft Edge and Bing apps for Android and iOS and Skype.

How to chat with Bing AI powered by ChatGPT

1. You first have to open the Bing page on your browser. On the page, you will find a new search box that supports up to 1000 characters.

2. Second, type the search query as you would typically ask a question to another person. (If you enter a regular query with keywords, you will probably not see an answer from Bing AI. For example, don’t try something like “install Windows 11.” Instead, enter a real question like “What do I need to do to install Windows 11 on my computer.)

3. As you start the search, you will receive a typical result with links listed by ranking. However, on the right side, you will now find the Bing AI interface with a more human-like answer with citations of information sources. Click the “See more” button to show the complete response.

Quick tip: You can use the thumb up or down to rate the answer to help the development team to improve the service.

4. If you want to access the chatbot, you can click the “Let’s chat” button or the “Chat” button a the bottom of the search box.

Quick tip: If you want to access the Chat directly, you can always click the “Chat” option on the Bing homepage. As you open the Chat, the experience will transition to the chatbot page. You will quickly notice that this is different from your typical search experience. (It’s like chatting with another person in WhatsApp, Teams, or Slack.)

5. The default conversation style for the chatbot will be set to “Balanced,” allowing Bing to respond more neutrally, meaning it will try not to take sides on a specific topic. However, you can change the tone to “Creative,” which will generate more playful and original responses, or to “Precise” to generate the most accurate response with more facts.

The ChatGPT version of Bing is content-aware, meaning the AI will remember your previous searches, so you can ask follow-up questions without starting over. In this experience, you can ask questions of up to 2000 characters.

6. If you want to start a new conversation, forgetting the previous session, click the “New topic” (broom icon) button next to the “Ask anything box,” and then ask another question. (Usually, you want to ask complex questions to see the power of the AI.)

When asking a question, the Bing AI will answer accordingly, usually in bullet points or numbered steps. Depending on the answer, you will notice citations with links for the source of the data. In the answer, the citations appear with numbers next to specific keywords, but you can view the sources in the “Learn more” footnotes. Also, in the answer, you can hover over the text to show the source for that specific portion of the response.

Quick tip: When you hover over the answer, you can click the thumb up or down to rate the response to help the development team to improve the service.

If you click on any of the referencing links, you will be redirected to the website, just like any other search result.

And that's how you use Bing AI with ChatGPT; As you can see, it's different from traditional search. However, it is up to you to interact with the chatbot to get the most out of it.

In addition to receiving text-based replies, the Bing chatbot can now generate images based on text input.

The only caveat is that service is currently limited; you can only make up to 15 queries per session and up to 150 sessions per day. When using the chat feature, in the bottom right corner of the answer you will see the number of queries you have asked and the remaining queries for the specific topic.
