Hospital: Affiliated Union Hospital of Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology (the “Wuhan Union Hospital”)
Address: 1277 Jiefang Ave, Wuhan, China
Preface
Wuhan Union Hospital is one of the largest kidney transplant centers in the central south area as well as the national cardiac transplant center with a large scale of transplants. It provided four heart donors in 10 days for one patient in June 2020[1]. According to a Minghui.org report with a quote from an elder man in China, Wuhan Union Hospital still engaged in live organ harvesting from so-called “death-row-inmates” in September 2016 [2]. Upon the massive scheme of the CCP’s state crime of live organ harvesting, this hospital is obviously suspected of involvement with the alleged live organ harvesting from Falun Gong practitioners.
Ⅰ. Hospital Profile
Wuhan Union Hospital is a tertiary level-A hospital. The hospital houses 5,800 licensed beds and consists of 4 campuses: the Main Campus, the West Campus, the Tumor Center Campus and the Jinyinhu International Hospital. Its cardiac transplant is ranked first in China for 5 years in a row.
It hires over 8000 employees including over 600 high-ranking officials. Besides, it has one key laboratory authorized by the Ministry of Education, one key laboratory by the Ministry of Health and two laboratories by Hubei province. It also got more than 100 grants from the National Natural Science Foundation of China for five consecutive years[3].
Ⅱ. One of the biggest kidney transplant centers in South Central China
The Wuhan Union Hospital performed the first kidney transplant surgery in South Central China in 1977. Over thirty-four years, the hospital acquired abundant theoretical knowledge as well as clinical experience in the field and got the kidney transplant qualification in 2007. It has become one of the biggest kidney transplant centers in the region.[5]
Ⅲ. National heart transplant center
The hospital claimed it had performed the most heart transplants in China in 2014 and had performed four heart transplants simultaneously at the same day in 2013.[6]According to the report of Wuhan Evening News, the cardiac surgery program at Wuhan Union Hospital completed 102 heart transplants in 2015, which showed its leading status of transplant technique in China. [7]
The heart transplant at Wuhan Union Hospital developed rapidly after 2008. It completed 428 heart transplants from September 2008 to April 30, 2017. The annual heart transplant was over one hundred cases in 2016 and 2017. [8]
According to the www.cjn.cn article by Huang Jin and Wu Wei on December 15, 2015, the total heart transplant at Wuhan Union Hospital ranked first in the country. Dong Nianguo, director of the Cardiac Surgery Program at Wuhan Union Hospital, said Wuhan had been the national hearts transplant center. [9]
Ⅳ. Performed four heart transplants simultaneously
This hospital set a record by performing four heart transplants simultaneously at the same day in 2013. [10] On August 6, 2020 10 o’clock to 24 o’clock, Dong Nianguo, director of Cardiac Surgery at Wuhan Union Hospital, and professor Xia Jiahong led a medical team of over 200 people to complete four heart transplants successfully within 14 hours of the same day. [11]
Ⅴ. Provided a patient with four heart donors in 10 days[12]
A 24-year-old Miss Sun, who was from Weihai, Shandong, and worked in Japan, looked for a heart transplant. Since the wait time for a heart donor would be more than three years in Japan, she returned to China in mid-June 2020. The lead surgeon for her cardiac transplant was Dong Nianguo, director of Cardiac Surgery and Director of the Organ Transplant Center at Wuhan Union Hospital.
Four matching hearts were in place in 10 days. The first matching heart was ready on June 16 and came from Wuhan. The surgeon gave up this heart after an assessment of coronary artery condition.
The second matching heart was found in Hunan province three days later. On June 25, another two matching hearts came with one from a Wuhan female and the other one from a Guangzhou male. According to the official media, they chose the male’s heart.
She recovered well after seven hours long operation.

Ⅵ. Minghui.org: Live organ harvesting still happening at Wuhan Union Hospital
According to Minghui.org, an elderly man in Mainland China reported his relative spent around 400,000 to 500,000 yuan to get kidney transplant at Wuhan Union Hospital in September 2016. The hospital didn’t disclose details of the donor and only mentioned the “death-row-inmate” was about 20 to 30 years old. It emphasized the donor was very fit, very healthy and very good quality of such kidney source. The patient was discharged but didn’t recover well. [13]
