A Google spokesperson said on August 30, that former U.S. President Donald Trump’s social media platform, Truth Social, has not yet been approved for the Google Play Store due to insufficient content review.
In a statement, Google said, “On August 19, we notified Truth Social of several violations of our standards policy for their current app submission and reiterated that having an effective system in place to review user-generated contents is a condition of our Terms of Service for any app to go live on Google Play.”
Google Play’s app store is for devices running the Android operating system, which accounts for about 40 percent of the U.S. smart phone market. Although the “Truth Social” app was launched in the Apple App Store on February 21, many smart phone users would have had difficulty downloading the app if it had not been available in the Google Play store.
According to U.S. news site Axios, “Truth Social acknowledges Google’s concerns and says it will work to address them.”
However, Devin Nunes, CEO of the Trump Media and Technology Group (TMTG) and former Republican U.S. Rep. from California, said it was up to Google and not “Truth Social” policy whether the Truth Social app would be available on Google Play, not Truth Social’s policy.
