A terrible pandemic known as the Black Death is said to have killed between 30 and 50 percent of Europeans by the middle of the fourteenth century. The bacteria Yersinia pestis, which is spread by the bite of infected fleas, is responsible for the plague. The illness frequently resulted in fever, skin lesions, and death within a few days. 

When it traveled from Asia via trade routes in 1347, the Black Death first emerged in Europe. In a short period of time, the plague swept throughout all of Europe, reaching England in 1348 and France in 1349.


Europe was devastated by the Black Death. The mortality rate reached up to 75% in certain urban areas. Additionally, the pandemic significantly disrupted social and economic life.

A significant turning event in European history was the Black Death. Population reduction brought forth by the pandemic resulted in a labor shortage and financial issues. Another significant effect of the plague on European culture was a resurgence of interest in religion and death.
